Dolorès Marat
Robert Delpire Book Prize 2023

For its first edition, the Robert Delpire Book Prize 2023 was unanimously awarded to Dolorès Marat.

The book Dolorès Marat is published by delpire & co (release date: October 2024).

The exhibition will be held at the Fondation Sozzani in Paris from October 31 to November 24, 2024, and will bring together more than 60 photographs from throughout the artist’s career. It is organised jointly by the Fonds de dotation Neuf Cinq - Robert Delpire & Sarah Moon in collaboration with the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), co-curator of the exhibition.

A self-taught photographer, Dolorès Marat began as an apprentice to a local photographer, Claude Froissard, before being hired as a lab assistant and photographer for the magazine Votre Beauté. It was at the age of nearly 40 that she began to pursue her personal work.

Her discovery of the Fresson process, in 1983, gave her photography a decisive direction. The four-colour carbon prints enriches her relentless exploration of textures and moods. She currently works with Sunghee Lee at the SHL studio in Arles, making pigment prints on Japanese paper.

Her work has regularly been featured in the press (Le Monde Diplomatique, Libération, Les Inrockuptibles, etc.). She has published numerous monographs, most of which are out of print: Lune rouge et autres animaux familiers, Fario, 2021; Illusion, Filigrane, 2003; New York USA, Marval, 2002. Her work has been widely exhibited, including a solo show at the Rencontres d’Arles festival in 2023.
